The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (Kingsbridge #1)

Very well written; just not for me.

I can absolutely see why this novel is considered a classic. Ken Follett is a gifted storyteller, and his writing brought 12th-century England vividly to life. Every scene was so well described that I could easily picture it unfolding.

Unfortunately, the story itself just wasn't for me. I found myself admiring the writing more than feeling invested in what was happening. That's entirely a matter of personal taste rather than any fault of the book.

If you enjoy richly detailed historical fiction and don't mind a slower, immersive pace, I think you'll understand why so many readers love this one. I appreciated Follett's talent enough to give it four stars.
