Usually I read the book first, then see the movie, or, in this case, the TV show. I LOVE 'Bones', and decided to read some of the books the TV series is based on. The books are even better. Deja Dead is the first in the series by Kathy Reichs.

Red Mill Inn

I took Ian to the Red Mill Inn. It was well outside our normal price range, but I had a coupon. :) The Signature Waldorf Salad was excellent! Seared fillet of sirloin, sliced and served on a bed of fresh greens, with candied walnuts, carrot slivers, and julienned apples, tossed with a sweet candied walnut and crumbly blue cheese vinaigrette. Yum!

So I was goofing off at work today and came across this definition of my nickname on www.urbandictionary.com:

This just confirms what I have been telling The Boy Child all along...I AM AMAZING! LOL!

Bronchitis

Never a dull moment in the Tabor household. Friday I started feeling a bit under the weather, and at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, I woke up with a sore throat and coughing. By Saturday afternoon, I was coughing so hard I couldn't get a deep breath, and I developed a lead weight on my chest. By evening, the lead weight turned into an elephant, and I took myself off to Urgent Care. 

A $75 copay and $75 in prescriptions later, I have bronchitis, for which I have an inhaler, an antibiotic, and cough syrup which puts me to sleep. Which is great, but not at work. 

Time for a nap.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I really wanted to go to the Science Museum. I know that isn't entirely normal; I've been told by other women that most women opt for dinner in a fancy restaurant or some such nonsense. However, in the words of Popeye, I yam what I yam. :D

So, Stuart, Ian and I all went to the Buffalo Museum of Science for my birthday. I had a blast. The current exhibit is 'The Science of Sports'. There wasn't enough on baseball, in Stuart's and my opinion, but that was our only critique. Ian got to try out his slap shot. There was an area for lacrosse, and he was able to see how fast he could fling a whiffle ball. He also posed as a black umpire (or whatever they call them in football).

There was another section in the Museum about our marvelous Earth. Ian stood in a booth in a simulated tornado. Look at his face!

I particularly enjoyed the Marchands exhibit. The Marchands created life-like models of plants in three seasons. They were gorgeous, and like all flowers, made me smile. Stuart enjoyed the Mysteries of Extinction. The size of some of the dinosaurs... I cannot imagine living during the time they roamed the Earth. The skeleton of the Albertosaurus looks extremely intimidating; with flesh and muscle, I would be sleepless.  Hmm. Nevermind sleepless. I'd be dinner.

We easily spent over three hours there, and were not bored in the least. I love my new hand boiler, too. It was a great way to spend the 48th anniversary of my appearance on the planet. I'm still smiling. :)

Elbow Update

Today, I went to my 7:50 a.m. appointment at Excelsior fully expecting to receive an ultrasound-guided cortisone injection in my left elbow. To say I was not looking forward to it is an understatement. As it turns out, the doctor does not recommend cortisone for my particular problem.  He did an ultrasound examination of my elbow and found scar tissue, tears, and fluid that is not supposed to be there. What he recommends is a whole lot more fun.  It's called a percutaneous needle tenotomy. After treating my poor elbow with a local anesthetic, he will use a needle to stimulate the bone and areas surrounding the existing scar tissue and tears to promote healthy bleeding, inflammation and healing by stimulating the production of growth factor. After this procedure, I will feel worse for about two weeks, but then should steadily improve. I'm not quite sure whether I'm looking forward to this or not. We're waiting for approval from Workers' Compensation, and then we go from there.  

In the meantime, I have a new brace. It's called an elbow strap, and I have to wear it all day. I am also to wear a cock-up splint at night for the carpal tunnel. Whatever works. I'm not complaining, as my friends and family can certainly attest to, but I am tired of the pain. 

I love flowers...

They sit on my coffee table and make me smile.  And when I seem to be smiling for what Ian thinks is no reason, he gets nervous, and a nervous boy child is a well-behaved boy child. Two birds, one stone. :D  Thank you, Stuart! They are absolutely beautiful...

Flight

I had two free tickets to Regal Theater, so Stuart and I had dinner at Applebee's and then went to see Flight last night. We thought it was pretty good, and the 2 1/2 hours passed quickly. Denzel made the movie. It was not, however, an Ian-friendly movie (not by a long shot). Don't take your kids. :)

Calvin Strikes Again

Mom, is it true that cats always land on their feet when they fall?

That's what I've heard.

Why?

I think it has something to do with their tail and how they use it for balance.

I PASSED!

I passed the New York State Teacher Certification Exam!

 (Yes, I do realize that I'm the only one that is surprised by this.) :D

What I find most surprising is, even though I know I have wonderful Math skills, I received perfect scores on the "Artistic Expression and The Humanities" and "Written Analysis and Expression" subareas. I expected to score highest on the Science, Math, and Technology subarea, but in actuality, I didn't. Very interesting...

Awww...

Every once in a while we have a moment of levity at work. It doesn't happen often, so when it does, we appreciate it!

Maisha got "just because" flowers. It's not her birthday, not her anniversary, nobody is sick, nobody owes anybody an apology, nobody is begging for forgiveness...she got them "just because".

How cool is that? :)
